Strabo412 ( talk) 20:00, Aug(UTC) I had the "culprit data" section in mind for the character templates. One problem I can think of is instances where an assassin is used to commit a murder, but I'm sure that can be built into the template easily enough? Do you think we should have more specific categories in conjunction with this (i.e., "murderers", "attempted murderers", etc.), or would that just complicate matters? I believe there is a benefit to categorising characters by the crimes they have committed. Maybe that's not very precise, but maybe we could kind of get away with it? capefeather ( talk) 00:33, Aug(UTC) Would the "culprit data" section be for the episode or character templates? Otherwise, I think that sound like reasonable solution. One way to implement this is to have something like a collapsed-by-default "culprit data" section that would add characters to the culprit category/categories if info is entered into it, rather than adding characters to the category/categories manually.
It would even include Larry Butz as a culprit for stealing Miles Edgeworth's lunch money (there is an article about it, after all).
It would include the witch trial culprits even though they didn't commit the crimes that they were technically accused with. It would include Tsukasa Oyashiki as a culprit for attempting to kill Yutaka Kazami.
This would include Marlon Rimes as a culprit for attempting to ensure Orla's death. I was thinking of defining notable cases very broadly as any incident (or closely timed sequence of incidents) whose details are not fully made known until a later investigation/revelation. Although this is far more vague, I believe it could still work if the category page itself gave a concrete definition of what we meant. I know that this would exclude some character, like Marlon Rimes, but I don't think any solution will be perfect and at least there would be definitive definitions for what those categories cover.Īnother possibility (which could even work alongside the above) is to go for a "true" or "real" culprits category. Maybe it would be better to do away with the villains category altogether and instead use a "murderers" (and possibly also "manslaughterers") category. Maybe it would be better to try and break some of it down a little? I'll use sub-headers here, if that's alright? - Strabo412 ( talk) 22:24, Aug(UTC) There is a lot you're trying to cover here. I figured I'd fish for ideas here for now while this is worked on. I might have been excessive about it, though. I've been making lua tables of episodes and cases here that are intended to be used for Template:CaseData and possibly for other things, and you can see in one of the tables that I've listed incidents that don't have an article. We have a page for the IS-7 Incident but not for the past case of Turnabout Succession even though there really is no difference other than the latter not having a name. For example, we try to define the notion of "real culprits", but edge cases make it difficult without a system for what constitutes a notable "crime" that would have a "real culprit".
I think a core problem tying into all of these is that we don't have a consistent way of determining whether an event in the series lore is notable enough for its own article and/or timeline entry.
There are a bunch of issues that seem disparate, like what to do with the Villains category, how to maintain the timeline, what to do with parts of the character/place/case templates. Anyway, the main thing is I've been thinking about the roadblocks to a lot of the projects that haven't moved forward and ideas that never materialized. The title might not be entirely appropriate, either, but I figured progress would just halt if I called it something like OMNIBUS THREAD ABOUT EVENTS AND SUCH.
This is sort of mainly concerning the Timeline page but I feel that the implications are a bit too broad to stick this in the talk page. Forums: Index > Watercooler > Notability of events
